SAVE-A-LIFE AND INSTALLATION PROGRAM

The Department of Fire and Rescue Services - Office of the Fire Marshal strives to provide a FREE smoke detector give-a-way and installation program for homeowners in the City of Reading. The program is geared to home owners rather than rentals as all rental properties require smoke detection to be provided by the building owner. The program focuses on the following criteria:

  • Ownership and verification of home
  • Mutually scheduled time to meet fire personnel at home
  • Completion of Hold Harmless document by owner (allows fire department personnel to enter dwelling and install devices, and owner signature attests that he/she will permanently install devices to manufacturers recommendations)
  • Full access throughout home as smoke detectors are placed inside and outside of every bedroom and on all levels of the home
  • We do not change batteries or provide replacement batteries

Requests for Smoke Detector can be made by calling the OFM at 610-655-6080
