RESIDENTIAL TRASH & RECYCLING

  • The City of Reading is honoring private collection agreements in effect BEFORE July 23, 2020, when the ordinance took effect.
  • The City of Reading must be provided with written evidence of certification of agreement:
    • Copy of the agreement
    • Signed certification of verbal agreement

Verbal agreements will be honored through July, 23, 2021. Written agreements will be honored through the contract term. There will be no contract renewals.

All residential properties with up to six (6) residential units will be automatically enrolled in the city-wide household waste collection and disposal program, including recycling, starting on January 4, 2021. Properties will be billed for each unit of record through the RAWA bill.

  • All residential units (homes or apartments) are permitted up to FOUR (4) 55 gallon bags per week.
  • All bags must be securely closed and strong enough to avoid breaking during collection.
  • Trash bins are not required, but are recommended.
  • Trash & Recycling may be placed at the curb for collection after 5 pm the day before collection, bins must be removed from curb after collection.
  • Trash & Recycling bins may not be stored in the front of your home.
  • Recycling bins are the property of the City of Reading, are assigned to the address, and may only be used for recycling.
  • Each residential unit is permitted to put out ONE (1) bulky item per week. See https://www.readingpa.gov/specialcollections for specifications.
