READING – January 5: MAYOR MORAN SIGNS DECLARATION OF DISASTER EMERGENCY
Mayor Eddie Morán today announced the signing of a Declaration of Disaster Emergency in response to a recent surge of COVID-19 cases. Pursuant to Section 7501 of the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Services Code, the City of Reading has authorized the issuance of a Declaration of Disaster Emergency. COVID-19 continues to represent an imminent threat to our community's health, safety, and well-being despite mitigation efforts and limited success in containing the spread of the virus variants.
The declaration allows the City’s Emergency Management Coordinator and response team to coordinate emergency response activities and take all appropriate action needed to respond to and alleviate the effects of COVID-19 on our City, its residents, and visitors.
“We understand the fear and frustration that this virus has placed on our City, County, State, and beyond,” said Morán. “We continue to look to the experts for guidance – CDC, DOH, and BerksDES and we are committed to our responsibility to serve the public. We will continue to monitor the situation and communicate with our Emergency Management professionals to adjust our operations and practices in a way that promotes the health, safety, and general welfare of the public and our employees.
“We are each other’s neighbors. Please continue to do your part in protecting yourself, your family, and others.”
The order is effective immediately
