READING – October 1st: Today, Mayor Eddie Morán announced the Reading Police Department’s badges would turn pink for the month of October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The change in color is to raise funding for Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County, a local non-profit that provides support, information, and hope to anyone affected by breast cancer.

“This is a matter close to my heart,” said Mayor Morán. “As many know, my wife is a breast cancer survivor, and I am familiar with the journey those that have received a cancer diagnosis go on. I believe in the BCSS’s mission and know that many in our local community benefit from their services. I stand in support of this amazing effort of hope and awareness and ask that those that can participate, please do.”

Reading Police Chief Richard Tornielli shared the Mayor’s sentiment. “The Reading Police Department is excited to assist the excellent work being done in our local community by the Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County,” said Chief Tornielli. “This fundraiser is something we can do to raise awareness and highlight the great work by this non-profit organization in our local community. Knowing BCSS can only provide these much-needed services to our community through the generosity of local donations, we received support from our local business community to ensure every dollar donated goes to them.”

In addition to the Police Department’s badges turning pink, the public will have the opportunity to purchase a collectible pink badge. Badges are available for purchase in the Police Traffic Office at City Hall, located on the 1st floor, Suite 1-18, Monday – Friday from 8 am – 2 pm.
