THE READING POLICE DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCES HAVE
ARRESTED AND CHARGED DRIVER INVOLVED IN HIT & RUN

READING: The Reading Police Department is releasing the following information related to the MVA Hit & Run involving two pedestrians that occurred at the intersection of South 18th St and Perkiomen Ave on Apri 16th at 1845 hrs.

 

Officers from the Patrol Division responded to the area of South 18th St//Perkiomen Ave for the report of two children struck by a motorcycle that then fled the scene. The children, 8 y/o and 14 y/o were transported to Reading Hospital and Hershey Medical Center to treat their injuries. During the investigation, it was determined that an unidentified male riding a white three-wheel motorcycle was traveling West on Perkiomen Ave and struck the two juveniles while crossing the street at South 18th St using the crosswalk. The rider is identified as Maximo Serrano-García, 75 y/o of Reading. The Reading Police located the motorcycle.

 

Serrano-García was charged with Accidents Involving Death or Serious Injury, Accidents Involving Death or Serious Injury while Not Properly Licensed, Duty to Provide Aid, Violation of Class of License, and Violation of Driving at a Safe Speed. Serrano-García was taken into custody on Apri 18th without incident.

"I want to thank Police Chief Richard Tornielli and the rest of the Police Department for their excellent work investigating and promptly identifying and charging the suspect," said Mayor Eddie Morán. "As I allow the justice system to run its course, I will continue praying for the children’s quick recovery, and for peace and healing for their family."
