Shots Fired Arrest

The Reading Police Department is releasing the following information relating to a shots fired incident that occurred in the 1000 block of Marion St on 02/24/2021 at 12:45 pm.

Officers from the Patrol Division responded to the area of 1000 block of Marion St for the report of multiple males shooting at each other. During their investigation, it was determined that an unidentified Hispanic male exited the passenger side of a silver Jeep Grand Cherokee and fired shots at another male, later identified as Angel Ariel Ortega, 18 y/o.

Ortega, who was also in possession of a firearm, fired back at the unidentified Hispanic male and the silver Jeep Grand Cherokee. The unidentified male got back inside the passenger side of the vehicle and the vehicle fled from the area. Ortega was located hiding in the rear of a residence in the 1100 block of Mulberry St.

Ortega was taken into custody and was in possession of a Glock 19 that was reported stolen out of the City of Reading and suspected marijuana.

Ortega was charged with Firearms related offenses, Trespassing, Receiving Stolen Property and Possession of Controlled Substance.

Ortega has a history of gang affiliation and involvement in prior shootings/shots fired incidents with the City of Reading. He was recently released from supervision by Berks County Juvenile Probation Office.

Reading Police are still looking for the vehicle involved and the unidentified shooter.
