Reading, PA - Today, Mayor Eddie Morán of the City of Reading issued the following statement:
"Thanksgiving is a time for all of us to reflect on our many blessings and be thankful.
As we prepare for smaller gatherings due to COVID-19 with our families and loved ones, let us remember to stay vigilant against this virus, which continues to create a spike in cases, not just in Reading and Berks County but our nation as a whole. We simply cannot let our guard down during the holidays.
For this reason, and out of an abundance of caution, City Hall will be closed beginning Thanksgiving Day and will re-open on Monday, December 14th. All employees, with the exception of those in emergency services, will be expected to work from home during this time as the essential services of the City will continue to be provided.
I emphasize that this is not time off and that employees are expected to perform their duties to provide services to residents as core functions of city government will continue.
On behalf of my entire administration, I wish you and your loved ones a wonderful Thanksgiving with a special emphasis on staying safe and healthy. While this pandemic has impacted all of us in unimaginable ways, we certainly have lots to look forward to: together."
