POSITION SUMMARY:

To provide internal legal counsel and guidance to the Mayor, members of City Council and Department/Division Directors on matters involving all aspects of Federal, State or Municipal Legislation. This position reports to the City solicitor.

 

Typical job duties may include but not limited to:

  • Participates in the development and interpretation of City departmental policies.
  • Reviews and drafts contracts and other agreements.
  • Provides counsel and advice on legal matters and the important aspects of government relationships.
  • Handles litigated matters including preparing for and attending hearings, depositions and arbitrations.
  • Coordinates the enforcement of the City’s codified ordinances and represents the City of Reading at hearings involving violation of the codified ordinances as assigned by the City solicitor.
  • Participates in meetings and hearings before government bodies.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:     

Educational Requirements

  • Law degree from an accredited law school.
  • One (1) to five (5) years experienced preferred.
  • Currently licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania.
  • Valid PA Driver’s License.

 

Experience

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Municipal and/or civil litigation experience preferred.
  • Ability to interface with all types of people in a professional manner
