The Downtown Ambassador Specialist assists in creating a clean, safe and welcoming environment to all who frequent Downtown, including tourists, business people, residents, organizations, and vulnerable street population.  Ambassadors provide daily visibility to the Downtown Community in the form of cleaning as well as assisting with the overall appearance of our Downtown.  Ambassadors interact with the Street Population in a respectful manner, using good judgement of when to report an incident to police or a social services agency.  Our Ambassadors greet everyone with a smile and always conduct themselves in a polite, courteous and professional manner.  Ambassadors must be friendly, approachable and attentive to their surroundings.  The Ambassador Specialist also assists with scheduling and troubleshooting throughout various shifts.  This position reports to the Downtown Coordinator, working to promote the Administration’s vision for a clean and safe Downtown.


Typical job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Trash, leaves, snow and ice removal
  • Pressure washing of sidewalks
  • Litter removal from planters, tree pits, stairwells; Litter removal from bus shelters
  • Empty trash receptacles
  • Interact with businesses and employees
  • Assist with events/scheduling/prep/clean up
  • Assist with daily operations of a clean and safe Downtown
  • Provide Human Service outreach to those in need
  • Create schedules and time sheets for part time staff
  • Weekly activity reports, on Excel spreadsheet, for Managing Director’s office review
  • Attend community meetings as requested by supervisor
  • Assist with problem solving as situations arise
  • Inventory City Downtown property (street lights, trash cans, etc.), ensure operational
  • Other duties as assigned.


Educational Requirements

  • High School degree or GED equivalent required
  • Must possess a valid PA driver’s license
  • CPR certification, or willing to learn CPR through the City


  • Previous manual work experience
  • Strong communication skills, bi-lingual a plus
