THE POSITION OF:                        Downtown Ambassador (Part-time)

SALARY:                                          $15.00per hour – 28 hours/week

The part-time Downtown Ambassador assists in creating a clean, safe and welcoming environment to all who frequent Downtown, including tourists, business people, residents, organizations, and vulnerable street population.  Ambassadors provide daily visibility to the Downtown Community in the form of cleaning and assisting with the overall appearance of our Downtown.  Ambassadors interact with the Street Population in a respectful manner, using good judgement of when to report an incident to police or a social services agency.  Ambassadors greet everyone with a smile and will conduct themselves in a polite, courteous and professional manner.  Ambassadors must be friendly, approachable and attentive to their surroundings.  The position reports to the Downtown Coordinator, working to promote the Administration’s vision for a clean and safe Downtown.

POSITION SUMMARY:

  • Trash, leaves, snow and ice removal
  • Pressure washing of sidewalks
  • Litter removal from planters, tree pits, and stairwells; Litter removal from bus shelters
  • Empty trash receptacles
  • Interact with businesses and employees
  • Assist with events
  • Assist with daily operations of a clean and safe Downtown
  • Provide Human Service outreach to those in need
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Educational Requirements

  • High School degree or GED equivalent
  • Must possess a valid PA driver’s license
  • CPR certification, or willing to learn CPR through the City

Experience

  • Previous manual work experience
  • Strong communication skills, bi-lingual a plus
