The Reading Police Academy will be offering 2022 MPOETC MIST starting February 07, 2022 and running through May 26, 2022. The complete training schedule and registration forms will be available to view, print, and download at www.readingpa.gov (navigate to ‘City Departments’, ‘Police Department’, ‘Reading Police Academy’) in the coming days.
Each year the Commission establishes the tuition rate for the MIST courses offered by academies to police officers. However, in 2022, certified police academies will offer training at NO COST to Act 120 certified police officers. NON-120 officers will be charged an established rate set by MPOETC.
The course offerings for 2022 are:
22-201 Legal Update (required course) 3 hours
22-601 Understanding Bias (required course) 3 hours
22-301 Use of Force-classroom (required course) 3 hours
22-302 Control Tactics-practical (required course) 3 hours
This year MPOETC developed 12hrs of In-Service training and all four courses are required (they did not offer any electives and CLEE courses cannot be substituted). Please take note that 22-201 and 22-601 will be taught on Day 1; and 22-301 and 22-302 will be taught on Day 2. Officers must take Use of Force (am) before they can take Control Tactics (pm).
Also take note: MIST instruction will take place at Upland Center, 540 Upland Avenue, RM 225 and the practicalportion (Control Tactics) will take place at the Berks County Fire Training Center (895 Morgantown Road, Reading).
