Ramp Closure & New Traffic Pattern Notice

PennDOT SR 3422

Penn Street Bridge Rehabilitation Project

  • Date of Closure & Pattern Reconfiguration is Week of May 8, 2017

The first major traffic pattern change for the Penn Street Bridge Rehabilitation Project will be implemented the week of May 8th. This will involve several changes to the existing traffic patterns as described below.

The exit ramp for traffic driving on SR 422 Westbound to Penn Street Eastbound (towards the City of Reading) will be closed. The attached detours will be implemented at this time. The ramp is anticipated to reopen to traffic in October 2019.

The Eastbound traffic (entering the City of Reading) across the Penn Street Bridge will be reduced to one 11’ wide lane. The eastbound traffic will not return to two lanes of traffic until project completion which is anticipated in December of 2019.

The Westbound traffic across the Penn Street Bridge will remain in two 11’ wide lanes until the last stages of the project. Between October and December of 2019 the westbound traffic will also be reduced to one 11’ wide lane.

Pedestrian traffic will stay at the current location on the south side of the structure. Pedestrians will remain in this configuration until August of 2018.

As with all construction events, the closure date above is anticipated at this point in time. Inclement weather or other unforeseen events could cause a slight delay to this schedule.
