Bus Trip! Morgan Library

Bus departs at 7 a.m.

Join the Reading Public Museum for our first ever trip to the Morgan Library and Museum.  The Morgan Library and Museum began as the private library of financier Pierpont Morgan (1837–1913), one of the preeminent collectors and cultural benefactors in the United States. Guests will be led on a highlights tour of The Morgan Library followed by a tour of the special exhibition John Singer Sargent: Portraits in CharcoalJohn Singer Sargent (1856–1925) was one of the greatest portrait artists of his time. While he is best known for his powerful paintings, he largely ceased painting portraits in 1907 and turned instead to charcoal drawings to satisfy portrait commissions. These drawn portraits represent a substantial, yet often overlooked, part of his practice. The first major exhibition to explore the artist’s expressive portraits in charcoal, this exhibit will recognize the sheer scale of Sargent’s achievement as a portrait draftsman.

Guests will dine in the Morgan Café, a casual dining atmosphere which evokes European alfresco dining. Guests will complete the day with free time to explore the entirety of the museum, library, and special exhibitions including: Verdi: Creating Otello and Falstaff—Highlights from the Ricordi Archiveand Guercino: Virtuoso Draftsman.
