This addendum must be signed, attached to, and returned with your proposal to the City of Reading by the time and date indicated ABOVE:

 

Questions from Contractors:

 

Q1. Is No Fault Safety Tiles as an approved equal?

 

A1. Yes, if they meet the specification criteria outlines in the bases of design, per Section 321816.13

 

Q2. Under the Alternate specification section, it says that there is a Schedule A. I cannot find this schedule.

 

A2. A schedule list has been added as Part 4 of the “Alternates” Specification Section 012300.

Q3. Should we upload our alternate pricing and if so where does it go?

A3. Alternate prices should be listed on the bidding sheet and indicated that is as alternates.

 

Q4. Is SofTILE KrosLOck DuraSAFE Series an acceptable alternate to the spec'd safety surfacing tiles?

A4. Yes, if they meet the specification criteria outlines in the bases of design, per Section 321816.13.

Q5. Supplying and Installation of the water meter pit and water meter.

 

A5. The City Water Authority will provide the water meter and the water meter pit. The contractor to provide excavation and trenching for the installation of the water meter pit and restoration of site features after installation.

 

Q6. Detail for the Surface Tiles

 

A6. No detail is provided. The Installation should be per Part 3 – Execution in Section 321816.13.

  1. Add Alternate:

    1. Bases of Design: Include Two (2) Double Wide Slides - 1220mm/48” KB Product # 200006975 and necessary assembly equipment to reattach to existing playground equipment. The products supplied by Little Tikes- Commercial www.littletikescommercial.com or equal as approved by the client.

     

  2. Deduct Alternates:

    1. Bases of Design: Keep the existing swing set equipment base poles to remain and remove the other pieces and replaced with the following products and/or supplied by Little Tikes- Commercial www.littletikescommercial.com or equal as approved by the client.

      • Replacement swing beams with Galvanized-steel pipe or tubing frame sections in kind with necessary bearings and bolts.

      • Four (4) – Assy. Belt Seat F/8’ swing with chain

      • Two (2) – Assy. Tot Seat F/8’ swing with chain

      • 2. Bases of Design: Keep the existing safety mating under the existing swing set equipment. Clean and repair as needed.

SECTION 01 23 00 - ALTERNATES

 

1. GENERAL

 

  1. RELATED DOCUMENTS

     

    1. Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and other Division 01 Specification Sections, apply to this Section.

       

  2. SUMMARY

     

    1. This Section includes:

      1. Administrative and procedural requirements for alternates.

      2. Seating.‌

      3. Trash Receptacles.

      4. Pour in Place Play Surface.

      5. List of add and deduct Alternates‌

         

  3. DEFINITIONS

     

    1. Alternate: An amount proposed by bidders and stated on the Bid Form for certain work defined in the Bidding Requirements that may be added to or deducted from the base bid amount if Owner decides to accept a corresponding change either in the amount of construction to be completed or in the products, materials, equipment, systems, or installation methods described in the Contract Documents.

      1. Alternates described in this Section are part of the Work only if enumerated in the Agreement.

      2. The cost or credit for each alternate is the net addition to or deduction from the Contract Sum to incorporate alternate into the Work. No other adjustments are made to the Contract Sum.

         

  4. PROCEDURES

     

    1. Coordination: Modify or adjust affected adjacent work as necessary to completely integrate work of the alternate into Project.

       

      1. Include as part of each alternate, miscellaneous devices, accessory objects, and similar items incidental to or required for a complete installation whether or not indicated as part of alternate.

         

    2. Notification: Immediately following award of the Contract, notify each party involved, in writing, of the status of each alternate. Indicate if alternates have been accepted, rejected, or deferred for later consideration. Include a complete description of negotiated modifications to alternates.

       

    3. Execute accepted alternates under the same conditions as other work of the Contract.‌

       

    4. Schedule: A schedule of alternates is included at the end of this Section. Specification Sections referenced in schedule contain requirements for materials necessary to achieve the work described under each alternate.

        2. Support Frames: Steel; welded.

           

        3. Trash Receptacles:

          1. Receptacle Shape and Form: Round cylinder; with opening for depositing trash in lid or top.

          2. Receptacle Height 47”

          3. Overall Width: 32”‌

          4. Inner Container: Rigid plastic container designed to be removable and reusable.

          5. Capacity: Not less than 32 gal.

          6. Service Access: Removable flat top lid, inner container and disposable liner lift or slide out for emptying.

          7. Style: Slats.

          8. Color: Black.‌

         

      3. FABRICATION

         

        1. Metal Components: Form to required shapes and sizes with true, consistent curves, lines, and angles. Separate metals from dissimilar materials to prevent electrolytic action.‌

           

        2. Welded Connections: Weld connections continuously. Weld solid members with full-length, full-penetration welds and hollow members with full-circumference welds. At exposed connections, finish surfaces smooth and blended so no roughness or unevenness shows after finishing and welded surface matches contours of adjoining surfaces.

           

        3. Pipes and Tubes: Form simple and compound curves by bending members in jigs to produce uniform curvature for each repetitive configuration required; maintain cylindrical cross section of member throughout entire bend without buckling, twisting, cracking, or otherwise deforming exposed surfaces of handrail and railing components.

           

        4. Exposed Surfaces: Polished, sanded, or otherwise finished; all surfaces smooth, free of burrs, barbs, splinters, and sharpness; all edges and ends rolled, rounded, or capped.

           

        5. Factory Assembly: Assemble components in the factory to greatest extent possible to minimize field assembly. Clearly mark units for assembly in the field.

         

      4. GENERAL FINISH REQUIREMENTS

         

        A. Appearance of Finished Work: Noticeable variations in same piece are not acceptable. Variations in appearance of adjoining components are acceptable if they are within the range of approved Samples and are assembled or installed to minimize contrast.

      5. STEEL AND GALVANIZED-STEEL FINISHES

         

        1. Baked-Enamel, Powder-Coat Finish: Manufacturer's standard, baked, polyester, powder-coat finish complying with finish manufacturer's written instructions for surface preparation, including pretreatment, application, baking, and minimum dry film thickness.

           

        2. PVC Finish: Manufacturer's standard, UV-light stabilized, mold-resistant, slip-resistant, matte- textured, dipped or sprayed-on, PVC-plastisol finish, with flame retardant added; complying with coating manufacturer's written instructions for pretreatment, application, and minimum dry film thickness.

         

      6. POUR IN PLACE PLAY SURFACE

 

  1. Basis of Design: Subject to with requirements, provide recycled granular or virgin EPDM or SBR rubber granules and accessory materials such as binders and solvents shall be as produced and/or supplied by Rubaroc International, Inc. www.rubaroc.com (1-877-RUBAROC) or equal as approved by the client.‌

     

  2. Materials:

     

    1. Granules – Pure vulcanized EPDM rubber chips ranging in size from 0.5-1.5 mm minimum

      dimension (Rubaroc Premium) to 1-4 mm maximum dimension (Rubaroc Classic).

      EPDM

      rubber shall be UV stable.

       

    2. Binder – Resin (Chemical family: Aromatic (Rubaroc Standard Resins) or Aliphatic (Rubaroc UV Resins) Isocyanate). Binder shall be 1005 urethane and contain no TDI. Accelerators may be used with aliphatic binders. (aliphatic binders should be considered

      on are

       

      indoor applications where there is UV exposure or where light colored rubber granules used).

    3. Primer – Aromatic or aliphatic Resin thinned with solvent.

       

    4. Matrix – Resin mixed with a thickening agent, used as a base coat to allow application of rubber on vertical surfaces such as stair risers and concrete pool copings.

       

    5. Finished Floor Properties:

       

      1. Surface to withstand 600-psi tensile stress.

      2. Surface to be slip resistant when wet or dry.

      3. Surface to be fungus resistant (trace to no growth).

      4. Surface to have chemical resistance (treated surface immersed for 24 hours) so that there

is no effect from oil, lye, hydrochloric acid, animal fat, grease, acetone, toluidine, alcohol, blood, chlorine, urine, detergents and insect spray.

1. EXECUTION

 

  1. EXAMINATION

     

    1. Examine areas and conditions, with Installer present, for compliance with requirements for correct and level finished grade, mounting surfaces, installation tolerances, and other conditions affecting performance of the Work.

       

    2. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.

       

  2. INSTALLATION, GENERAL

     

    1. Comply with manufacturer's written installation instructions unless more stringent requirements are indicated. Complete field assembly of site furnishings where required.

       

    2. Unless otherwise indicated, install site furnishings after landscaping and paving have been completed.

       

    3. Install site furnishings level, plumb, true, and securely anchored at locations indicated on Drawings.‌

       

  3. PREPARATION:

     

    1. All sub surfaces will be inspected prior to application and any discrepancies will be reported to the owner or his agent. Installation will not proceed until any problems are rectified. Unless specified the owner is responsible for the sub base (substrate).

       

    2. Clean the substrate with broom or shop-vac as required. Use of a pressure washer may be required if substrate is extremely dirty. (Sufficient time must be allowed for the surface to thoroughly dry.)

       

    3. Install retaining edging or forms if required.
