Goals 2007 for
the Reading Police Department
• Reduce the number of total Part 1 crimes. These
crimes include Murder, Rape, Robbery, Aggravated Assault,
Burglary, Theft, Motor Vehicle Theft, and Arson. This
objective will be accomplished by community problem oriented
policing and crime prevention efforts. Patrol services
and visibility will be enhanced by increasing the number
of patrol districts and having the officers become more
proactive in their assigned areas.
• Increase the enforcement of Quality of Life type
enforcement, especially noise violations, disorderly conduct,
and harassment. Stopping, identifying, and citing offenders
for this conduct will help lower the overall crime rate
and make the city safer and more comfortable for all.
• Implement a pilot project for a Video Safety
System. This system will consist of cameras capable of
recording activity on street, sidewalks, and other public
spaces. This safety system will deter crime, aid police
investigations, and promote a sense of security for citizens.
• Build stronger neighborhood programs with emphasis
on participation and cooperation between police, citizens
and community groups. Officers will continue to attend
neighborhood and crime watch meetings, and conduct presentations
on crime reduction plans and other police activities.
• Conduct a Citizen’s Police Academy class.
The course will cover most aspects of police work and
will provide a comprehensive overview of the police department
and the role that citizen and businesses play in crime
control efforts.
