Reading Police Department Makes Crash Reports Available Online

Reading, PA (August 29, 2011) – Reading Police Department is digitizing its crash reports through a partnership with the Carfax Police Crash Assistance Program. The reports are stored electronically in a secure database and available for purchase online at www.crashdocs.org/pa-readingpd

Filing electronic crash reports reduces overhead costs for the department. Police departments spend an average of $35,000 a year to manually reproduce accident reports. The new system virtually eliminates this cost as well as the administrative staff time spent fulfilling each request.

Just as important, public access to crash reports is now more efficient. Reports needed by involved parties, insurance companies, and other members of the public are now easily obtained online within minutes.

Working with Carfax Police Crash Assistance, Reading Police Department is better serving our community.

On behalf of the dedicated men and women who comprise the Reading Police Department, I welcome you to our website. Browsing this site will provide you with a unique glimpse into our organization. Our police officers and support personnel are involved in much more than the enforcement of laws and ordinances. The police department is a community organization that supports our neighborhoods, our schools, and our businesses.

Our police officers are committed to the principles of problem-oriented policing, working side-by-side with our citizens to create a safer, more comfortable city. Our employees engage in many programs and projects that help achieve our mission. A proactive and responsive patrol force is the core of our efforts.

The uniformed members of the Patrol Division are the most visible representatives of the department. Their efforts are supported and augmented by members of the Special Services and Criminal Investigations Division of the agency.
