City Of Reading Announces New Hire In Solid Waste Department
August 30, 2007: Frank Denbowski, Solid Waste Coordinator of the City of Reading, Pennsylvania announced today that Mr. Mike Schorn will be accepting the part-time position of Litter and Recycling Education Coordinator, effective September 4, 2007.
Mr. Schorn, retired as a teacher from the Reading School District after 32 years of service, served as a City Councilman from June, 2000 through January, 2006 and was City Council Vice-President for two years during his service. His extensive volunteer experience includes Board of Directors of Wood to Wonderful, Executive Committee member of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame Berks Chapter, Our City Reading Board of Directors, Holy Guardian Angel’s Regional School Board member, President of the Reading-Berks Basketball Old-Timers, Inc., Commissioner of the Berks County International Association of Basketball Officials, and Interim Director of the BlackTop Youth Basketball program.
Mr. Schorn lives in Reading with his wife Kathy (Hanner) and they have five daughters and six grandchildren.
“I’m happy that Mike has chosen to accept this new youth-focused position,” Frank Denbowski stated. “His community ties and professional experience will be an asset as he educates city youth about recycling and litter and will strengthen the administration’s commitment to the citizens of Reading for stronger youth participation in a cleaner city.”
