City Of Reading Announces $250,000 Recycling Grant Award
December 24, 2007: Frank Denbowski, Solid Waste Coordinator of the City of Reading, Pennsylvania announced today that the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has approved the City’s grant application for the Recycling Development and Implementation Grant program. The grant award amount for the City of Reading is $250,852.
The Recycling Development and Implementation Grant Program reimburses local government for the cost of municipal recycling and composting programs. 134 Pennsylvania communities applied for grants in the $20 million program. The City of Reading was in the top 20 award recipients, with awards ranging from $6,245.00 to $500,000.00.
“This grant will allow the City of Reading to improve the current yard waste program and increase our ability to compost more material,” Frank Denbowski stated. “The grant will pay for composting equipment, residential recycling containers and city-wide composting education. The grant will cover 90% of the cost with the City being responsible for the remaining 10%,” Denbowski added.
