Message
from Mayor Tom McMahon
Today marks a new era of communication
for the City of Reading with our upgraded web site. It is
our intent to make this the “go-to” place for
information and answers about our city so that we can serve
our citizens better and more efficiently.
In addition to the latest news about activities at city
hall, we plan to use this site for surveys and inquiries
to get your feedback on issues and concerns.
In addition to ordinances and minutes of council meetings,
we will be providing information on neighborhood meetings,
including locations, date and time of meetings, and contact
persons. Neighborhoods in Reading are the cornerstone of
our new initiative for bringing citizens together and I
hope you find the site informative and fun.
Our
new mapping system for crime tracking will also be a part
of this website in the future so you can keep track of concerns
in your neighborhood and help us to make it a safer place
to live, work and raise our families.
There will be a section on FAQs, most frequently asked
questions, so that you can find the information you need
on trash policies, ordinances, what to do about abandoned
vehicles and vacant homes, and lots of other questions that
people have on their minds. I want to hear from you on how
we are doing, and especially on how we can do things better
here at city hall.
Lets work together to make Reading the most progressive
city in Pennsylvania, and be the model for other cities
in the commonwealth in using technology to inform and get
information to flow both ways – to you from us, and
from you to us.
We’re also going to celebrate this community by showing
you scenes of success, art work of our students, and news
of upcoming events that you will not want to miss.
Feel free to let us know what you think at any time. This
mayor and council are anxious to hear from you!
Tom McMahon, Mayor
