Councilor Jaime Báez Jr. was elected in the 2023 General Election to represent the residents of Reading’s District 2, bringing a deeply rooted, people-first perspective to City Council. His leadership is shaped by lived experience, grassroots organizing, and a career built from the ground up.

Jaime’s commitment to community service predates elected office by more than a decade. Since 2012, he has been actively engaged in volunteerism and community organizing, beginning with neighborhood street clean-ups and expanding into youth development, financial education, civic engagement, and nonprofit leadership. He has volunteered with and supported organizations such as Atabey360, The Three Doctors, Junior Achievement, and One Love, among others.

His long-standing involvement with Reading Pride Celebration exemplifies his leadership trajectory, starting as a volunteer and later serving as Events Coordinator, Volunteer Coordinator, and briefly as Vice President.

Jaime’s professional journey reflects resilience, adaptability, and determination. He began working in humble roles, including as a janitor, before pursuing certification in massage therapy. He later spent five years in warehouse and manufacturing operations, advancing from packer to line mechanic, where he developed a strong work ethic, technical problem-solving skills, and operational discipline.

Transitioning into the financial sector, Jaime spent five years in the banking industry, progressing through roles such as customer service representative, banker, and loan processor. Across more than a decade of customer service experience, he became known for client advocacy, financial literacy support, and navigating complex systems on behalf of everyday people, skills that directly inform his approach to public service today.

In early 2023, Jaime took on an additional public-facing role as a Constituent Service Advisor for State Representative Johanny Cepeda-Freytiz, where he assists residents with state-related issues and strengthens coordination between city and state government.

In his first year on City Council, Jaime established Party at the Park, a now-annual community event that brings together residents, nonprofits, small businesses, and public agencies to promote access to resources, community connection, and public safety. The initiative reflects his belief that effective government must be visible, collaborative, and rooted in the community.
