Maria
R. Baez
District 5
Maria R. Baez was appointed to the District 5 Council
seat on October 16, 2006. This seat was vacated due
to a resignation. Ms. Baez resides in District 5 with
her two children. She is a graduate of Reading Senior
High School and earned an Associates Degree in Business
from the PACE Institute.
Ms. Baez is very experienced in
government services. She has performed a wide range
of constituent services while working for the Public
Defenders Office, the Prothonotary’s Office
and while working for Congressman Tim Holden and Mayor
Tom McMahon. In these positions Ms. Baez worked as
a liaison between citizens and various elected officials
and government offices at the local, state and federal
levels. Ms. Baez is currently working as a paralegal
at the law firm of Weinstein, Schleifer and Kupersmith,
PC. |

Ms. Baez also fills many leadership roles for various organizations
who work to improve the quality of life for all Reading
residents. Her work with organizations such as Berks County
Office of Aging, Berks Hispanic Leadership Institute, U.S.
Hispanic Leadership Institute, Berks Voter Registration
Drive and as a Community Organizer for Working Families
Win help her stay well versed in issues affecting the City.
Her work as an immigration consultant at various churches
in Reading, on the Board of Directors for the Community
Prevention Partnership, on the New Creation CDC Board of
Directors, on the BCTV Programming Committee and on the
Latino Advisory Committee keep her well connected to the
issues and concerns of Reading residents.
As a 30 year resident, Ms. Baez understands Reading’s
past and her broad range of experience provides her with
a great vision for what Reading can become. Her focus on
education, economic development, property tax reform and
improved constituent services will make that vision become
a reality.
