Dennis
Sterner
District 3
Dennis M. Sterner has resided on North 14th Street
for over 40 years and has served as the District 3
Council member since 2003, when we was appointed to
fill the seat vacated by George Kerns. Mr. Sterner
graduated from Hamburg High School and earned a degree
in drafting and technology at Penn State Design and
Technology Center.
Mr. Sterner worked at Dana Corp.
from 1966 to 1971 and Penn Optical from 1971 to 1979.
In 1979, Mr. Sterner accepted a job at AT&T (later
becoming Lucent and Agere). He retired from that position
in 2001. Mr. Sterner and his wife Sue Ann have one
daughter and two perfect grandchildren. He is active
in the Hillside Playground Association and has coached
various youth basketball and baseball groups.
As Chair of the Council Public Safety Committee Mr.
Sterner has helped City Council and the Administration
to focus much needed attention on codes related issues.
He believes that good codes enforcement is the best
first step to improving the City’s aging housing
stock. He has been exploring ways to control better
control rental properties and decrease the City’s
transiency problems. Mr. Sterner has been actively
encouraging State and Federal legislators to crack
down on gangs and illegal aliens.
Mr. Sterner is also working with members of the Reading
School Board to address daytime curfew issues and
shared services. He works with District 3 community
groups to restore pride in homeownership and improve
their quality of life for his constituents.
