The primary function of this office is to oversee the curbside collections of recycling and solid waste in the City of Reading.

Recycling collection is required for all residential properties in the City of Reading. This service is automatically provided to all residential dwellings that are 4 units or less. The charge for this service will appear on your water bill.

The City of Reading’s Code of Ordinances, Chapter 496, Part Two, Section 102 states that it shall be the responsibility of the owner/operator of residential, commercial, industrial and institutional properties, and multifamily dwellings, with five or more residential units, to provide, at their own expense, for the storage, collection and disposal of all recyclable materials from their properties. Only a licensed hauler shall collect, transport or dispose of municipal waste, refuse or recyclables.
To find a licensed hauler, contact your trash hauler and explain that you are required to implement a recycling program for your establishment.
In the event your hauler does not offer recycling collection, you may obtain further information by calling the Citizen's Service Center at 1-877-727-3234.
Owners/operators of residential, commercial, industrial and institutional properties, and multifamily dwellings, must submit annual reports to the city no later than January of each year. Forms can be found in the Trash and Recycling links on the left side of this page.

Residential Solid Waste
All property owners who do not participate in the City of Reading’s trash collection program must provide a current agreement with a licensed Trash Hauler to the Solid Waste/Recycling Office
