News Release
Kyle Zeiber, City of Reading Public Works Department Division Operations Manager, held a news conference earlier today on Joan Terrace to announce that November 30th will be the last day for loose leaf collection (leaves along the curb), and provided an updated yard waste collection schedule. Zeiber also took the opportunity to remind residents of what constitutes yard waste and how it should be left for collection.
“We recently mailed out a Yard Waste Brochure and many residents mistook it for a Recycling Brochure. First off, the recycling and trash collection schedule has not changed,” said Zeiber. “The brochure was only about yard waste, but since it has been mailed, we’ve updated the collection schedule.”
The collection schedule for yard waste is as follows:
  • Monday - Northeast Reading, Hampden Heights
  • Tuesday - South of Penn St., East Reading, Hessian Camp, 18th Ward
  • Wednesday - Northwest Reading, Northmont, Riverdale, Glenside
  • NO COLLECTIONS Thursday and Friday
“I also want to stress that if you do have yard waste to be collected, please call Public Works at 655- 6285 to be put on the collection list,” continued Zeiber. “We will continue to collect leaves if they are put in the large, brown recyclable bags. We will not collect any yard waste in plastic garbage bags, and we do not collect grass clippings. If you have tree branches or twigs, please bundle them and tie them.”
Brown, recyclable yard waste bags can be purchased at stores such as Lowes and Home Depot. Residents with questions about trash or recycling can call the Citizens Service Center at 877-727-3234.
