News Release

The Reading Department of Fire and Rescue Services held a graduation ceremony earlier tonight for the graduation of the 12 fire recruits who completed their training at the Reading Fire Academy. The graduation was held in the auditorium of the Reading Hospital School of Science in front of City officials, family and friends
“Welcome to the department, and we wish you the best of luck,” Mayor Spencer told the new firefighters. “I had the unique opportunity to train with you for a day, and I am honored to have you on our team. You have already proven your integrity when you purchased the fire hydrant for Deputy Chief Wentzel and donated the towels for the children to use at Schlegel Park Pool. You make a fine addition to the squad.”
After a program that began with an invocation from Rev. Eileen Smith LeVan and remarks from Lt. Sean Hart, who runs the Fire Training Academy, Fire Chief Dave Hollinger, and Mayor Spencer, the graduates wore sworn in by City Clerk Linda Kelleher, and then heard from Class Speaker Firefighter Glenn Raudensky.
