The Department of Administrative Services was created in 2010 as the result of a referendum of the citizens of Reading. The referendum combined the Departments of Human Resources and the Department of Finance. This change resulted in a $100,000 savings to the taxpayers of Reading due to the elimination of one department director position while combining all of the "back office" functions of the city under one director, the Director of Administrative Services.
