The city of Reading, located in southeastern Pennsylvania, is the principal city of the Greater Reading Area and the county seat for Berks County. With a population of 88,082 as of the 2010 census, it is the fifth most populated city in the state, after Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Allentown and Erie, and the sixth most-populous municipality.
Residents of Reading: The Reading Police Department would like you to be careful when approached by vendors and door-to-door salespersons. Please check that they have the proper permit from the Office of the Chief of Police, not just a business license from City Hall. We have been made aware that there is are companies going door to door without a permit and being overly aggressive with residents.
